Hd36v2, blade belt keep popping off when I throttle
Hi all, Hope someone more knowledgeable on bandsaw like this can give me a pointer. I ran my HD36 all summer and cut a lot of really big logs, and I've been generally pretty happy with it. Recently though, I have a problem where if I'm not careful about how I throttle up the engine the belt for the blade will get thrown off from the clutch. The blade still be sitting there tightened down to the wheels when I pop the covers off and look, so somehow the belt is getting out from underneath the blade. It happens if I pull the throttle too quickly to fully open. The engine always does a shudder at about halfway through the throttle level, as if the belt isn't catching either the clutch or blade until that point, and if I've revved too hard when that happens it catches the belt and throws it off. Very annoying, means I'm constantly opening the covers and resetting the belt if I'm not very slow to throttle up to speed. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I've tried adjusting the blade tension slightly looser or tighter, and I've messed a little with the idler pulley tightness, would it be one of those or something entirely different? Thanks all AraV

I don't really have any real sound advice. 1st check the drive belt carefully I had one coming off and it would take the blade with it. Make sure the idler is adjusted properly so the belt is riding center , I had to adjust mine so that when I turned it by hand the belt was just a little toward the motor and when reved it would center. Best of luck AraV

Check the alignment of the pulleys, all of them, including the one on the motor. They may not have to be completely coplanar, but none should be angled down from the others.

Thanks to both of you. When I'm next out on the property I will check my belts to make sure everything is straight. I know the idler pulley wheel is slightly to one side or the other of the clutch wheel (csnt remember which right now) so maybe I need to take it off and add/subtract some washers to get it more in plane. Thanks and will update soon.

The idler pulley on my LM2000 has never ridden in the center (rather to one side), but has never caused me any problems - just saying. Also check that the guides are not forcing the blade from flat travel.

Well to update: I took the idler wheel off and shimmed it about a quarter inch farther into parallel with the drive shaft and the blade bandwheel. When I put the idler wheel back on I tightened it up so that there was less slack in the belt. The combination of these two seems to have solved the problem, I can now go directly to full throttle and the engine doesn't shake as much/the belt doesn't pop off. See if it last... thanks all. By the way, how do I format my posts on this forum? I add indents and spaced but then when it posts it's just a big run-on paragraph...

Yeah, no subtlety allowed here. Glad you conquered your problem. Besides centering, decreasing slack with the idler was the solution, I suspect.
