What has happened to this forum ?
What has happened to this forum ? All I see now are comments to older articles with people promoting unrelated products. Seems like the forum needs new moderators. Will there be political posts soon to follow ? Lets get this back to what made it good. Sawyers & potential sawyers sharing knowledge of the hobby & craft.

I agree Dave - I think the problem is that there isn’t any moderators at all. For years it worked fine, but for whatever reason this place has been taken over by outsiders. There’s still a few old sawyers watching in the background, but it’s not the beneficial forum that it was when I first bought my sawmill. I’m really missing it right now because I had knee replacement 10 days ago and I’m having to “saw” by way of the internet lol. Let’s take it back!

Thanks Bill. I’m already doing a lot better and hopefully be back up and around in a few weeks. I just finished my log trailer and bought an old one ton diesel to pull it but didn’t get to try either one out before surgery. Once I get it all loaded I’ll try to post some pictures.

I agree. I've been off a while, too, and disappointed in what I found. We'll get it back. There's a lot of new owners out there that would benefit from the wisdom of us old-timers. Hope your knee heals & that you'll be able to be back to sawmilling soon, David.

Good judgement comes from experience... experience comes from bad judgement.

Thanks Post Oakie - I’m starting to get better already. Hopefully going to try to fire up the mill in a couple of weeks. If I can do anything to help out getting the forums up again let me know. I am one of the folks that benefited from it a few years ago when I first got my mill. I agree that new people can get a lot of help starting out here. Let me know if I can help.

I think we should start some new posts addressing problems & issues we have experienced so the new folks don't have to sift through the archives.

I agree DaveM - I’ll think about it a little bit and maybe we can start a few new conversations. I changed my picture to a new one - maybe we could start a thread of big/unique/different projects that we’ve cut on our sawmills. I know that I enjoy looking at some of the really neat things people make. Bill posted some pictures of some really nice benches a couple of weeks ago.

I've not been around here in some time. Never really was too active either. Everyone is probably over on the FB Norwood site. I've got some questions maybe we can get something worthwhile going here. Gus

Please ask away !! Still plenty of support here. Try to ignore the trolls. I hope Norwood is trying to clean the site up.

Go for it Gus.

Hi Gus - welcome. I’m one who can tell you that you can learn about sawmills by asking questions. I had never operated a bandmill when I got mine and I hung out here and have been able to learn to cut some really nice wood.

It finally appears that Norwood has been doing some moderation on the posts. Not as much spam as there used to be. It's good to see, because I was really missing the good ol days, when there were no one here but sawyers. At one point I just gave up and stopped using the Forum. Thanks Norwood, I'M BACK.....

Not sure I see much evidence of moderation on the forum. Once again: Does anyone have any theories as to the purpose of these spam comments? Are they going out automatically to any website or forum that does not protect itself? Is it all from automated bots? Obviously, the content does not interest sawmill operators. Can they phish for information in your device if you click on the highlighted areas (they all seem to have one)? Any insight, anyone? It doesn't make sense that real humans would be wasting their energy posting these irrelevant comments except to serve some nefarious purpose.

I will bet that Norwood is finally monitoring the site as my reply to your message, teasing the trolls has been removed. I have been responding, hopefully in a humorous way, to the posts from the trolls. I agree with them removing the comment because since they removed the troll's post, my response had no relevance. Let's hope !!

Hope so. They could take the wind out of their sails (the spammers) by prohibiting links to other sites.

I don’t know enough about it to answer your questions Eddie, but the one who could is Roland Garrison but he’s not around anymore because of the click baiters. I kinda thought Norwood would approach him to moderate when all this started but I haven’t seen him around here for a while. I don’t like what has happened here because this forum has helped me a lot. Wish it was like it used to be.

It could help us all. We all need help from time to time, and it allows us old farts to show we know something that's gained from actual experience. It takes real effort to saw these logs, it's not just something that comes from surfing the internet or fishing for dollars. Sweat and blood, no matter the financial gain (which is insignificant) - physical, bodily (and machine) effort that yields real world results - creates something really useful. I guess it's not important compared to $ earned, but . . . (Words fail me).

You are right - and I don’t think anyone would do that work just for the money. The addiction to sawdust is different though lol. If the sawmill bug bites you you’re stuck - once that happened to me I realized that days spent sawing are days well spent. I don’t think I would have been able to get started as fast as I did without the help of old sawyers who helped me. These scammers on the forum are screwing this up.

Over a thousand digital currencies and commemorative items can be purchased and sold on Bitmart, a global cryptocurrency exchange, in 180 countries. Despite the fact that BitMart provides all of the features one would expect from a global cryptocurrency exchange, it was fixed in December 2021, which resulted in an estimated 196 million dollars worth of cryptocurrency being stolen.

I certainly hope so !! Hopefully when they do, they remove my troll responses as well since they will have no relevance to the thread anymore.
