Milling Barn Beams into Valuable Timber with a Norwood LM29 Bandmill

Boards sawn from barn beams are prized for their character and history. This makes them very valuable, fetching top dollar from home owners, home builders and interior designers.

Also, sawing barn beams is a great way to recycle wood and give it new life.

Norwood LumberMate LM29 sawmill owner, Tima Dragomautz, shows us starting into one barn beam.

Many Norwood owners use their sawmills to recycle the wood from old barns that are falling down or being dismantled. Because the beams invariably have nails and spikes in them, it is best to use a bi-metal blade. And, because the wood is so old (and therefore hard), contains metal and is so valuable, it is wise to take a bit more time in the cut.

It would have been nice if they had run the video long enough to actually see what the finished board looked like..... Rolling eyes in disbelief.....
