Norwood Sawmill Owner & Custom-Contractor Saws His Own Quality Lumber & Beams

Ray Frankum, a contractor in Ontario, Canada, invested in his own sawmill to produce custom-dimension lumber.

He chose the Norwood's hydraulic LumberPro HD36 and uses the timber he produces in his custom-contracting business. Being able to put to good use surplus softwood logs that are typically discarded in his area is another big positive.

Instead of "going to the lumber store to buy it, it's nice to be able to make it yourself."

"When you're milling your lumber, you're getting real two inch. You're getting real six inch. You're getting a lot stronger material, bigger, beefier material, and I like working with it." "If you need a 6" wide by 12" inch beam, you can cut that yourself. You're not running to getting someone to custom-cut that for you. Being able to do that is a big plus in the custom-contracting business."

"There is a lot to say for having your own mill and being to do your own stuff and seeing the quality of the lumber you're going to end up with.".

Very interesting video, good thing to see it in action. I was wondering, what other equipment do you use, especially to pile your logs. Some kind of a tractor, a forklift?
